Cooper traded to Portage

The Bruins' goalie situation is now resolved after the trade of Shea Cooper to the MJHL's Portage Terriers.

I spoke to Keith this afternoon and he said the deal had changed, which was the reason for the delay. The trade includes a list player coming back to the Bruins. That was partly to avoid another SJHL team potentially picking up Cooper on waivers. If a player is traded out of province for cash only, other teams in the league are given 48 hours to claim him.

"I wanted to make sure he got to Portage. It's a good situation for him," Keith said. "Shea gets a new start. I think he'll be just fine."

He cited Tendler being a year younger and having "the kind of disposition we're looking for to work with our young defencemen and Steven Glass" as reasons for dealing Cooper.

Bruins vs. Hounds preview

Good morning. The Bruins are heading into their second meeting with the Notre Dame Hounds tonight looking to make up for last Saturday's poor showing in Wilcox.

Don't forget former Bruins coach Gerry James will be on hand to promote his biography, Kid Dynamite, written by Ron Smith. There are all kinds of stories from his three seasons leading the "James Gang" in Estevan and that was only a very small part of his colourful career in hockey and football.

NOTE: The Bruins traded a player to an out-of-province team for cash on Wednesday. I believe the 48-hour waiver window expires this afternoon, so I won't be able to announce anything until then.

Estevan Bruins (2-2)
The focus for the Bruins right now is trying to cut down on their goals against. Yes, they won a thriller on Tuesday and yes, they're at .500, but they've allowed 19 goals in four games. You can't expect to win 6-5 and 8-4 on a regular basis. Sticking with the blueline, Tyler Kauk has been a standout in virtually every game. For a rookie, he's been a workhorse and has really helped lift the burden off some of the other unproven defencemen.

As far as I know, they will be playing in front of a new goalie. Steven Glass is expected to get his first SJHL start tonight. He looked every bit as good as the two veterans in training camp, so I'm looking forward to how he responds in a meaningful game.

Up front, don't be surprised if the Whitehill-Jelinski line (with either Daae or Dochylo) adds some offence tonight. They really set the tone physically on Tuesday and it sounds like Sunday's game in Yorkton was more or less the same. I expect Whitehill to put up some points once he gets his legs under him.
Notre Dame Hounds (3-2)
Several Junior B players from B.C. have come into the SJ the last couple of years and had success, and Brandon Millin is, so far, another example. The 19-year-old scored twice against the Bruins last weekend and is second in Hounds scoring with five points. Todd Christian is also off to a good start and Carson Grolla provides offence from the back end (I'm still surprised I got him so late in our draft!).

Perhaps the biggest reason for the Hounds' start, though, is 18-year-old goalie Ty Reichenbach. Many thought veteran Matt Smidt would be the starter, but Reichenbach is 3-1 with a .926 save percentage so far. He was outstanding against the Bruins in the third period last Saturday, stopping 15 of 16 shots in the frame to secure a Hounds' victory. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised that the Hounds traded the rights to Dubyk and Desaultels despite losing Russell Abbott.

Big line dominates as Bruins edge Broncos

It wasn't pretty, but it sure as heck was entertaining.

Calder Neufeld, Dylan Smith and Cole Olson combined for 12 points in the Bruins' 6-5 win over Humboldt tonight. Neufeld led the way with a hat trick and assist, Smith had a goal and four apples and Olson added a goal and two assists.

Neufeld's assist was a beauty and it came on what was the eventual game-winner. With the Bruins leading 5-4 late in the third, Neufeld came across the Broncos' line being hooked up by a Humboldt player. He chipped the puck over the player's head, got around and beat him to it, then sent a hard pass across onto Smith's tape in the slot for an easy backdoor goal. It had the place roaring. Just spectacular.

Neufeld and Smith are now tied for second in league scoring with 10 points apiece in just four games. Olson isn't far behind with eight points.

The Broncos opened the scoring eight minutes into the first on a filthy tic-tac-toe play with Backhouse and Antkowiak. Brett Pinder finished it off by going top cheese from the side of the net.

Neufeld netted his first of the night at 12:23 on what looked like a broken play. Olson's attempted pass from the left circle hit a skate, but Neufeld gathered the loose puck and beat Matt Hrynkiw to the far side.

Just 15 seconds after that, Josh Jelinski demolished Andrew Johnston with perhaps one of the best open-ice hits I've ever seen in the Bruins' zone. It was like a linebacker dropping a running back. You could hear the impact from the press box. Johnston was okay but got in a skirmish with Lyndon Soper and wound up in the box.

The hit seemed to spark the Bruins and they added two more goals shortly after that, another by Neufeld and then a Chris Daniels shot that beat Hrynkiw past the blocker.

Riley Kieser made it 3-2 less than a minute after the Daniels goal on a scramble in the crease where it looked like Tendler had it covered up, but it somehow squeaked in.

Humboldt evened the score three minutes into the second when Jeff Bartel went for a hit on Matt Glowa at the blueline, missed, and Glowa wound up scoring blocker side.

Olson restored the Bruins' lead three minutes later when he one-touched a loose puck into the net on his backhand. The Bruins carried a 4-3 lead to the third.

Neufeld completed the hat trick barely three minutes in, directing the puck over Hrynkiw's blocker from in tight. I think I saw one hat.

Taylor Reich was impressive on one shift in particular early in the third. He was being dogged by Adam Zbitniff, holding and hooking high in the zone, followed by a cross-check to the ice behind the net. Instead of firing back, Reich let Zbitniff pick up the puck, looped around the zone and crunched him into the boards on a clean hit. It was the kind of response you'd expect from a vet, rather than retaliating and getting into penalty trouble.

Just when it looked like the Bruins would win comfortably, Logan Sproule drew the Broncos to within one with 3:19 left, on a seeing-eye point shot that found the top left corner through traffic.

Neufeld and Smith connected 41 seconds later, and then Neil Landry scored 83 seconds after that to set up a nailbiter of a finish.

A total of 39 goals have now been scored in the Bruins' first four games. Keith and I were joking that they trimmed down the total goals from 12 in the season opener to 11 (kinda like Luongo in the playoffs). But a win is a win and the Bruins are now 2-0 at home.

Bruins vs. Humboldt preview

The Bruins get their first taste of the RBC host Humboldt Broncos tonight at Spectra Place. Here's a quick look at both teams. Check back a little after 7 p.m. for lineups.

Estevan Bruins (1-2)
The Bruins are coming off back-to-back losses on the weekend, although Keith Cassidy was much happier with Sunday's effort in Yorkton, a game that saw their comeback fall short despite scoring three times in 3:44 in the third period. That performance helped Calder Neufeld (2g, 1a) earn a runner-up nod for SJHL player of the week.

Dom Perrault sat out the game after taking a shot off his foot late in Saturday's contest. The foot was too swollen to play on Sunday, but he skated the next day and should be good to go tonight.

Derek Whitehill made his Bruins debut on Sunday and was dominant on a line with Josh Jelinski and Matt Dochylo. We haven't seen Whitehill in action since the first day of training camp and I think people are underestimating the impact he could make in a Bruins jersey.

Keith also said roster trimming would come "fairly soon" so we'll see if anything transpires this week. Until then, you can expect a rotating door of players going in and out of the lineup each night.

Sounds like Derek Tendler will get his fourth straight start tonight.

Humboldt Broncos (3-1)
No slow start for the favourites, who are outscoring opponents 20-6 through four games. They are also the only team to beat the Nipawin Hawks (how strange does that sound?).

Robbie Ciolfi broke out for a hat trick against the Hawks on Saturday, his first goals of the season, while playing on a line with Andrew Johnston and Matt Glowa. After that you've got the likes of Marshall, Herle, Landry, Davies, Zbitniff and Antkowiak to deal with, not to mention Josh Roach from the back end. That's going to be a big challenge for a raw Bruins blueline that has surrendered 14 goals in three games.

Despite the Broncos' ongoing attempts to bring in a money goalie, Matt Hrynkiw is no slouch himself and is fresh off goalie of the week honours.

On opening night, it was clear that the Melville Millionaires of Sept. 17 were not the same Mils we'll see all year. Humboldt has had no such problems and will be a stiff early-season test for the Bruins.

Game time is 7:30.

Bruins fall 3-1 to Hounds

Keith Cassidy's first words to me after the game tonight were "You drove up here for THAT?"

And there's no doubting that the Bruins' performance in a 3-1 loss to Notre Dame was a disappointment.

Facing a team that wasn't expected to do very well this year and on a big ice surface that should have made for a wide-open, exciting game, the Bruins came out flat and recorded a grand total of nine shots through two periods.

They turned up the heat in the third, but it wasn't nearly enough to overcome a three-goal deficit. Austin Yano drove one home from the point on a third period power play, his first SJHL goal.

Brandon Millin scored twice for the Hounds in the second period and Dayton Shaw scored later in the frame. One goal was on a power play and the other two were right after they had expired.

Millin opened the scoring early in the second on a play that never should have been allowed to happen. Millin walked out from the right side of Derek Tendler and roofed a backhander, completely untouched.

His second goal came on a shot from the slot and Shaw later tapped in a rebound that Tendler couldn't get to in time.

Ben Johnstone and Denin Boesch each drew in for their first SJHL game while newcomers Austin Daae and Ryan Crosson also suited up.

I was impressed with Crosson. I wasn't sure what to expect from him offensively, but he carried the puck with poise and made a couple of smart pinches. He logged a lot of minutes and, if he keeps it up, will really take some pressure off the Bruins' younger defencemen.

For Notre Dame, rookie goalie Ty Reichenbach was outstanding, especially in the third when Estevan was throwing everything at him.

Keith wasn't happy with his team's effort and had some choice words for them following the game. There's also an interview with Austin Daae.

Bruins pick up '92 defenceman

The Bruins have added a little more experience to their blueline this week with the acquisition of 1992-born defenceman Ryan Crosson.

The Minnesota native had come to Estevan in August for the team's conditioning camp before joining the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Things didn't work out there, so now he's returned to the Bruins.

Full stats:

Crosson was recommended to the Bruins through scouts in Minnesota. Keith described him as a good skater and puck mover although he hasn't seen him in game action.

He added that the team is sticking with 15 forwards and eight defencemen at least through the weekend.

Who's got the best team?

Bruins get Daae back from Blades

The Saskatoon Blades have re-assigned left winger Austin Daae to the Estevan Bruins.

Daae, 18, played 11 games with the Blades last year and chipped in two assists.

He also dominated the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League in his 22 games with Moose Jaw, posting the highest PPG percentage in the league with 18 goals and 45 points.

The addition of the Estevan native gives the Bruins 15 forwards. He adds another potent offensive threat and it will be intriguing to see what he can do in the SJHL.

Bruins dump Mils in electric opener at Spectra Place

Playing the first game in a new arena, especially one as spectacular as Spectra Place, is a unique experience and I'm sure tonight will stick in the memories of a lot of people for a long time.

From the roughly 2,000 people who packed that barn to the $6,015 50/50 jackpot to the pre-game fireworks introductions to the Bruins' 8-4 victory, it truly was something special to be a part of.

Calder Neufeld took the honours of scoring the first goal in the new rink, tapping in a power play feed from Dylan Smith at 2:54 of the first period.

Neufeld added another man-advantage marker less than seven minutes later, and Ryan Ostertag sniped one off the bar and in at the 11-minute mark.

A lapse later in the period led to back-to-back Mils goals, though, with Michael Desjarlais and Roger Tagoona beating Derek Tendler 12 seconds apart.

Matt Dochylo would restore Estevan's two goal lead less than six minutes into the second on a wrister past the blocker of Alex Sirard.

Cole Olson knocked in a rebound four minutes later to give the Bruins a 5-2 lead heading into the third.

Melville made it a one-goal game again with goals from Ian McNulty and Colin Mospanchuk, but Chris Daniels again gave the home side some breathing room by banging home a feed from Ostertag.

Late in the period, in a span of 22 seconds, Tanner Froese and Taylor Reich joined Mospanchuk in scoring their first SJHL goals.

Shots were 37-29.

It's game day

After years of waiting for Spectra Place and months of waiting for the new-look Bruins to take the ice, the day is finally here.

Here's a look at tonight's season opener against the Melville Millionaires (I'll try to get the lineup and jersey numbers up later today).

Remember, you need to be in your seat around 7 p.m. tonight. Also, you may need to leave a few minutes early because 7th St. is currently the only way into the rink. You can't get in from Souris due to road work.

Melville Millionaires

The Mils are the odds-on favourites to win the Sherwood Conference this year, but they aren't expecting to get off to a hot start. Part of that is because players like Sean Aschim and Zach Rakochy are still in the WHL, and the other part is they only play three of their first 13 games at home, not opening the Horizon Credit Union Centre until Oct. 1.

Still, this is a team that can fill the net and they have three strong veterans on the back end, although Jamie Fiesel is looking for another one. They also have capable netminder Alex Sirard in Rakochy's absence. Melville can ice two excellent scoring lines along with a gritty third unit that can chip in points. The Bruins' young defence will have to deal with guys like Jesse Mireau, Mark Owen, Lucas Froese, Michael Desjarlais and Roger Tagoona all night. The Mils also have some promising rookies including Colin Mospanchuk and Allen Kilback.

Lee Christensen will anchor a blueline tasked with handling the Bruins' deep forward corps, with support from 20-year-olds Bob Pond and Tyson Newell. Tyler Bird and Jared Williamson are also back as 19-year-olds. Sirard, a former Bruin, will start his second straight season opener after the North Stars brought him in as an injury fill-in last year.

Estevan Bruins

One of the biggest things I'm sure Keith Cassidy is working on today is keeping his players' focus on the game. With so much going on, the first game in Spectra Place, all the people who will show up (not to mention the tailgate and last night's appearance at the combine demolition derby), it's important that the guys keep the distractions out, not to mention the nerves for all the 18-year-olds.

This is our first chance to see the highly touted rookies in a regular season game. Let's not forget, it's going to take them a while to adjust. Still, I wouldn't be surprised to see guys like Taylor Reich, Tanner Froese, Matt Brykaliuk or Tyler Kauk make an impact tonight. They all looked more like veterans in pre-season.

The top line of Calder Neufeld, Cole Olson and Dylan Smith will obviously be expected to lead the way. I'm not sure if the Brykaliuk-Bernard-Froese line is staying together. I also expect vets like Ryan Ostertag and Michael Hengen to step up and be heard in what could be a breakout year for both.

We know the blueline will be very young with four 93s. Expect Kauk to log lots of minutes to help out Perrault and Baldwin, and Yano as well. There is no question they will have their hands full and as Keith mentioned earlier this week, the calm presence of Derek Tendler will be key. It's a chance for Tendler to show what he can do with Cooper out and I expect him to take full advantage.

Bruins down to 24 players

The Bruins have cut three more players, getting down to 24 for opening day including injuries.

19-year-old defenceman Dallas Jorgensen has been released. There was hope that Jorgensen's experience could lend a steadying influence to the blueline, but he had a poor camp and was outplayed by many of the first-year defencemen.

19-year-old forward Kyle Trimp has been traded to the Flin Flon Bombers. Trimp had a very good showing in pre-season, but there just wasn't any room for him. The Bombers are short on experienced forwards so it should be a good fit.

Finally, 19-year-old Dylan Richardson has been released. Richardson arrived at camp late and didn't look out of place, but again, got caught up in the numbers game.

I think it's safe to say this is the opening night roster:

Goalies
Derek Tendler
Steven Glass
(Shea Cooper injured)

Defencemen
Dom Perrault
Eric Baldwin
Tyler Kauk
Austin Yano
Denin Boesch
Lyndon Soper
Jeff Bartel

Forwards

Cole Olson
Calder Neufeld
Josh Jelinski
Ryan Ostertag
Michael Hengen
Matt Dochylo

Bruins 7 Hounds 1

Here is a recap of tonight's 7-1 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds in the last game of the pre-season.

There are a few injury-related tidbits to get to. I stand corrected on Shea Cooper's injury. The cut is actually on his foot, rather than his knee. He's expected to be out about two weeks.

Keith informed me that Ryan Ostertag was wrongly diagnosed with a concussion when he was with the Northern Connecticut Wings. After some testing done last week, it turns out it was a viral infection that was causing migraines. Not hard to see how the confusion started there. At any rate, Ostertag looked terrific in his return tonight, scoring twice and nearly getting a hat trick if not for a player being in the crease.

Ben Johnstone has recovered from his concussion. Keith said he could have played tonight.

As for the game itself, Ostertag was obviously a standout. He showed off his speed and pinpoint shot and also didn't shy away from battles. Dylan Smith was really impressive, both for his backdoor goal and his willingness to mix it up. Smith pummelled Hounds rookie Dillon Schwartzenberger after Calder Neufeld's goal in the third, and he also went looking for a few hits.

Jesse Bernard had probably his best outing yet and as you'll hear below, Keith was very impressed with his game. His one-touch passing play with Taylor Reich in front of the net was a thing of beauty and had Matthew Smidt completely out of position. With both his linemates from last week being at the Team West camp, Bernard didn't miss a beat.

Tyler Kauk once again showed off his poise with the puck. For an 18-year-old who's billed as a heavy hitter and shooter, he's very calm in moving the biscuit. That's something the Bruins' young blueline will rely on.

Here's the post-game with Keith:

Cooper injured and other quick hits

Good afternoon. Here are a few Bruins updates heading into tonight's pre-season finale against Notre Dame.

  • Shea Cooper is on the shelf for up to two weeks. He suffered a knee laceration that required stitches after an off-ice accident. That means Derek Tendler and Steven Glass will dress for Saturday's opener. The Bruins don't play again until Sept. 24 after that, so Cooper might be healthy by then. At any rate, the injury allows the team to put off the decision on who to keep.
  • Derek Whitehill (shoulder) is considered day-to-day. Not sure yet if he'll be ready to go on Saturday.
  • Ryan Ostertag (concussion) has been cleared to play and, as far as I know, will be ready for the opener.
  • No word yet on Ben Johnstone's concussion suffered last week against Weyburn.
  • There were still 27 players on the roster as of yesterday. The only players gone from the roster I reported last week are Kade Halabuza and Wyatt Garagan. They have to get down to 25 so expect a couple of cuts in the next few days, probably at forward.

I don't have the team's current roster at the moment, but I can report that 17-year-old forward Wyatt Garagan has been returned to the Tisdale Trojans. Wyatt had a terrific camp and did everything he could to earn a spot, but there simply isn't room for any '94 forwards with the crop of '93s coming in.

Brykaliuk added to Team West WJAC camp roster

Two members of the Estevan Bruins have a shot at playing in the World Junior A Challenge.

Rick Oakes announced this afternoon on Twitter that Matt Brykaliuk will join Tanner Froese at the Team West evaluation camp, which runs Sunday through Tuesday in Canmore, Alta.

Oakes is in his first year of a role that sees him nominate SJHL players to attend the camp.

It's high praise for both considering Froese has played one SJHL regular season game and Brykaliuk, none.

This tournament is basically the World Juniors for the Junior A level and it would no doubt be an amazing experience.

Oakes also suggested defenceman Tyler Kauk for the evaluation camp, but he was not selected.

In other Bruins news, forward Ben Johnstone suffered a concussion during last night's win over Weyburn. It's not clear how much time he'll miss but it sounds like a mild one.

Bruins edge Wings 2-1

http://www.estevanmercury.ca/article/20110908/ESTMERCURY0204/110909851/-1/estmercury02/bruins-edge-red-wings-in-pre-season-play

The Estevan Bruins improved to 3-0 in SJHL pre-season action Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory over the Weyburn Red Wings at Crescent Point Place in Weyburn.

Forwards Calder Neufeld and Matt Dochylo scored the goals for Estevan, which defeated the Wings for the second straight night.

Shain Scheschuk had the lone goal for Weyburn.

Derek Tendler manned the pipes for the Bruins, whose next action is Friday against the MJHL's Swan Valley Stampeders in Virden, Man.

In other Bruins news, 18-year-old forward Tanner Froese has been invited to the Team West evaluation camp for this year's World Junior A Challenge in Canmore, Alta.

Bruins defeat Wings 5-2

The Bruins improved to 2-0 in pre-season play with a 5-2 victory over Weyburn tonight at Spectra Place.

Scoring summary:
First period
1. WEY - Corey Kosloski
2. EST - Ben Johnstone

Second period
3. EST - Matt Brykaliuk
4. EST - Calder Neufeld
5. EST - Denin Boesch

Third period
6. EST - Dylan Smith
7. WEY - Corey Kosloski

One kid who I really thought stood out tonight was Matt Brykaliuk. His goal off the rush showed off his speed and pinpoint shot and he played a complete game on a line with Jesse Bernard and Tanner Froese. Brykaliuk has been one of the best players in camp in my mind.

Quick thoughts from Keith on tonight's standouts:

Bruins edge Hounds in rookie game

The Bruins defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 6-5 in today's rookie game in Wilcox.

Scorers were Wyatt Garagan (3), Dayton Picard, Daniel Wanner and Zach Douglas.

The Bruins got out to a 4-2 lead in the second period before the Hounds tied it up. Estevan then took a 5-4 lead, only for Notre Dame to level it up again. Garagan scored the game-winner on a two-man advantage late in the third.

Estevan's next game is at home against the Wings tomorrow, followed by a return game in Weyburn on Wednesday.

I'll try to get the current roster from Keith and post it here soon.

Team Black wins Gerry Aspen Cup

Team Black got a pair of goals from Calder Neufeld en route to a 3-1 win in today's Black and Gold game, which will now be called the Gerry Aspen Cup in honour of the Bruins' trainer.

Wyatt Garagan added another goal late in the third and Black got strong netminding from both Shea Cooper and Travis Pelletier.

Ben Johnstone had the only goal for Team Gold, burying a cross-ice pass from Matt Brykaliuk early in the third.

Although the black team had more chances, it easily could have been a tie game. Brandon Halbgewachs hit a crossbar in the first period that looked like it may have gone in, and Neufeld's second goal came when the puck was trickling into the net and it looked to me like Derek Tendler knocked it away in time.

Either way, it was a high-tempo game with a lot of players giving it their all to stick around a while longer.

The Bruins will trim down to about 28 players tonight, not including the kids who will play in the rookie game tomorrow in Wilcox.

Training camp - Day 2

I'm putting this up now because I have to go to Torquay for bull riding tonight, so I'll miss the last game of the day.

Scores from this morning were 5-2, gold over red, and 5-3, white over green.

Here are most of the goal scorers:
Gold: Dylan Ostertag, Michael Hengen, last one was either Brayden Larkin or D. Ostertag.
Red: Jesse Bernard
Green: Matt Dochylo, Chris Daniels, Anthony Delli Fraine
White: Calder Neufeld (2), Dylan Johner, Tyler Boyer, last one was either Dylan Smith or Matt Brykaliuk

On the injury front, Derek Whitehill and Ryan Ostertag sat out this morning. Whitehill suffered a shoulder injury last night (I believe on a hip check from Kauk). Not sure how serious it is. Ostertag is still recovering from a concussion he suffered in Boston and wasn't feeling great after last night's game.

For rookies, Austin Yano had another impressive showing. He's a dynamic presence from the back end and a guy who should get lots of PP time this year. Tyler Boyer also showed some offence from the blueline, scoring for the second straight game. He's been the best 94 in camp in my mind and should see some pre-season action at the very least.

Jesse Bernard and Tanner Froese seem to be building some chemistry and Matt Brykaliuk has shown that he knows what he's doing around the net. Tyler Kauk turned in another strong game. He's laid some nice hits without trying too hard and taking himself out of position, as some guys have been prone to doing.

For vets, Daniels continues to impress. He'll of course be facing older competition in game action but he's been dominant for the green side so far. He's been setting up a lot of plays. Calder Neufeld has been very good in both games he's played and he's showed a competitive spunk, throwing a few hits and mixing it up. He's got tons of talent and could easily be a first-line guy if he puts it all together.

Shea Cooper and Derek Tendler went head-to-head in the second period of the white vs. green game. Cooper has looked great so far, relying on his reflexes and athleticism to make stops and challenging shooters. He's making a very strong pitch for that #1 job.

If I had to predict what the blueline will look like, I'd say two spots are up for grabs with Perrault, Baldwin, Jorgensen, Kauk and Yano taking the first five. I think it's Denin Boesch, Jeff Bartel and Tyler Boyer battling for the six and seven roles. But what do I know.

The camp roster will be cut down to about 40 after tonight's games. I will try to get the info and get the rosters up for tomorrow's game when I get back from Torquay.

Training Camp - Day 1

Day 1 of Bruins camp is in the books. Two intrasquad games were played tonight, with Team White defeating Team Gold 7-5 and Team Green (originally black) edging Team Red 4-3.

Most would agree that the second game had a little more intensity and crisp offensive play. There were highlights to be had in both sessions though.

This list is incomplete but here are most of the goal scorers:
White: Cole Olson, Jordan Greig, Sean Whelan, Matt Brykaliuk, Tyler Boyer
Gold: Ben Johnstone, Michael Hengen, Dominic Perrault
Green: Chris Daniels, Matt Dochylo, Taylor Reich (2)
Red: Edwin Hookenson, Daniel Wanner

Reich, Daniels, Johnstone, Tyler Kauk and Steven Glass were some of the kids who impressed me most. Reich was everywhere and threw some good hits, Daniels looked good around the net and Kauk was a physical presence. Glass made some big stops... he's looked good all week and if he keeps this up will almost certainly earn a spot.

Here are a couple of interviews with Bruins coach Keith Cassidy and forward Ryan Ostertag. Sorry about the background noise.

Bruins property at WHL camps

Here's a list of the players I've been able to glean so far who are listed by the Bruins and at WHL camps. I'm sure there are others, so if you know of them feel free to leave a comment.

Tyler Bell - defenceman, 17 years old
Bell has impressed the Kamloops Blazers in camp and they have now signed him to a pre-season contract.

Austin Daae - left winger, 18 years old
Daae played in 11 games with the Saskatoon Blades last year and is looking to crack the squad for good.

Tyler King-Cunningham - defenceman, 16 years old
King was a first-round pick of the Spokane Chiefs, so don't expect him in Estevan, although there was some talk earlier in the summer that he might come for one year.

Darcy Deroose - forward, 16 years old (Moose Jaw Warriors)
-signed to a pre-season contract by the Warriors

Grant Naherniak - goalie, 15 years old (Red Deer Rebels)
